New open standard developed by Olympus and Nikon. It is used in digital cameras with interchangeable lenses and 4/3“ image sensor. It brings higher CCD sensor performance and standardization of interchange bodies and lenses by different manufacturers. Besides lower price, the manufacturers also promise lower weight of the lens and wide range of types. The first camera with this feature was Olympus E-1 camera that was introduced by the end of 2003.
